Whether you have the Monday morning blues or something more serious going on, sometimes it’s just good to get your feelings out. Instagram wants to help.
Today the social media platform is launching #HereForYou, a month-long campaign to start conversations about mental health on Insta. The initiative coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month.
Insta wants you to tag your photos and share your stories. After all, sometimes a photo can encapsulate how you’re feeling just as well as—or better than—words. And the social giant wants to foster supportive communities, so people who are struggling can connect with others that relate to their concerns.
For example, if you search for certain hashtags, like #depression, you’ll hit a landing page with advice to call a friend, ways to contact a helpline, or tips to help you feel better.
Insta wants to bust through the stigma that keeps men quiet about mental health. For example, men commonly perceive depression as weakness and respond by “closing up,” a recent study review from Germany concluded.
But depression isn’t a sign of weakness, and counseling, medication, or other lifestyle changes could help you.
